Demolition is the act of tearing down existing buildings and structures. It can be as simple as removing a portion of a house or as complex as demolishing a multi-story building. Demolition contrasts with deconstruction, which involves taking a building apart while carefully preserving individual elements for reuse and recycling. The most common type of wood generated from demolition is dimensional lumber, but can also include plywood, treated wood and manufactured wood, like composite panels.
Some buildings may be good canditates for deconstruction or pre-demolition salvage of materials with architectural value or reuse potential. Local recycling markets may exist for wood waste generated from demolition, or some may be reused on site, in accordance with local regulations.
