LEED-certified buildings provide a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings and are a critical part of addressing climate change, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
The LEED rating program guides, measures, and certifies a building’s performance in terms of energy use, water use, materials use, sustainable site development, and indoor environmental quality. There are LEED rating systems for a wide range of building types from commercial buildings to schools to homes. LEED can be applied to both new and existing buildings. Watershed provides an array of services to help manage the LEED certification process, and train professionals to use it successfully. The earlier in the design process that a project decides to utilize LEED, the greater the potential benefits and the lower the potential for additional costs.
Projects pursuing LEED certification earn points for various green building strategies across several categories based on the number of points achieved, a project earns one of four LEED rating levels: Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Each level requires a minimum amount of points and prerequisites.
