About Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)

Last Updated April 30th, 2025

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is an engineered wood product made by bonding thin wood veneers together under heat and pressure with a waterproof adhesive. The veneers are aligned in the same direction, making LVL a strong, dimensionally stable structural material commonly used for beams, headers, rim boards, and other load-bearing applications in residential and commercial construction.

Reuse Opportunities:

LVL is typically manufactured in long lengths with consistent structural performance, making it a good candidate for reuse in construction, framing, or design applications where uniformity and strength are important. Salvaged LVL may be repurposed as:

  • Structural beams in remodeling or new construction

  • Workbenches or shop tables

  • Furniture bases or shelving supports

  • Wall cladding or design features when aesthetics align
