About Compost

Last Updated October 21st, 2020

Composting is a natural process through which organic material is converted into a soil-like product or humus. The process works with the help of micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi, combined with air and moisture.

All composting requires three basic ingredients:

1. Browns - this includes materials such as dead leaves, branches and trees

2. Greens - this includes materials such as grass clippings, vegetable and fruits scraps/waste and coffee grounds

3. Water - having the right amount of water, greens and browns is important for proper compost development

The brown materials provide carbon, the green materials provide nitrogen and the water provides moisture to assist in breaking down the organic materials.
